Inhibition of Japanese encephalitis virus infection in vitro and in vivo by pokeweed antiviral protein

► Pokeweed antiviral protein (PAP) was expressed and purified from E. coli system. ► PAP suppressed JEV infection in vitro. ► The 50% inhibitory concentration (IC50) was 300 ng/ml (23.1 nM). ► PAP can decrease mortality in mice challenged with a lethal dose of JEV.
