NF-κB signalling is attenuated by the E7 protein from cutaneous human papillomaviruses

► Cutaneous human papillomaviruses (HPVs) are linked to non-melanomic skin cancer development. ► HPV-16 E7 is known to interact with IKKα leading to a downregulation of the NF-κB activity. ► We show that selected cutaneous HPV types all downregulate NF-κB activity. ► We show that the same cutaneous HPV types all interact with IKKα. ► This suggests a common mechanism shared by all HPV types used to avoid an immune response.
