Low-level light therapy potentiates NPe6-mediated photodynamic therapy in a human osteosarcoma cell line via increased ATP

- Low-level laser therapy could either protect cells from PDT, or could potentiate the killing.
- 1.5 J/cm2 810 nm NIR increased PDT (Npe6 +1.5 J/cm2 652 nm light) killing of osteosarcoma cells.
- LLLT increased both the cellular uptake of NPe6, and the cellular supply of ATP.
- A good supply of ATP is necessary for efficient apoptosis after PDT.
- These findings are potentially of clinical relevance.
