Counts of fungal spores released during inspection of mouldy cinematographic film and determination of the gelatinolytic activity of predominant isolates

► We examined cinematographic films which were identified as being mouldy. ► The numbers of spores released when winding reels were counted, and common isolates identified. ► Gelatinase assays were performed on predominant isolates. ► Some film reels released fungal spores above levels considered 'safe'. ► A. versicolor was the most predominant isolate and had a high gelatinolytic activity.
