Lead, mercury, cadmium, chromium, nickel, copper, zinc, calcium, iron, manganese and chromium (VI) levels in Nigeria and United States of America cement dust

► We analyzed cement dust samples from Nigeria and United States of America for metals and hexavalent chromium [Cr (VI)]. ► Total Cu, Ni, Cr, Cr (VI) and Mn were significantly higher in USA cement dust sample. ► Nigeria cement dust contains higher concentrations of Cd, Pb and Hg. ► The studied samples contain metals that are known human carcinogens. ► The study reveals that concentrations of heavy metals and Cr (VI) are factory dependent.
