PCDD/Fs and PCBs in ambient air in a highly industrialized city in Northern Italy

► Ambient air in an highly industrialized city in north of Italy was investigated. ► PCDD/Fs air levels were lower than those generally detected in urban areas. ► PCB levels were highest in the proximity of a chemical plant. ► PCB air levels are due to the volatilization of these pollutants from soils. ► PCA shows different sources as responsible of PCDD/F and PCB air concentration.
