Spatial distribution of ciguateric fish in the Republic of Kiribati

► Fish samples were collected from two islands in the Republic of Kiribati. ► The mouse neuroblastoma assay indicated that most of the fish were toxic. ► Pacific ciguatoxin-1 equivalent toxicity was species- and location-dependent. ► Carnivorous species, especially groupers and moray eels, were the most toxic.
