Survey of attitudes and perceptions of urine-diverting toilets and human waste recycling in Hawaii

► Urine diverting toilets (UDTs) are largely unfamiliar in the US. ► People consider UDTs environmentally friendly and socially acceptable. ► More than 60% of people are willing to pay (WTP) a fee to install a UDT at home. ► Women had higher WTP than males and WTP increased with age, education and earnings. ► People believe that UDTs conserve water (> 80%) and recycle nutrients (> 70%).
