Cloud-to-ground lightning and Mesoscale Convective Systems

►We relate Mesoscale Convective System properties with cloud-to-ground lightning. ►System area, temperature, ice content and size are strongly related with lightning. ►Initial area expansion showed to be a potential parameter for storm severity definition. ►Maximum lightning occurrence is observed at close systems maturation. ►Strong condensation processes and mass flux contribute for cloud electrification.
