► We review the disaggregation of remotely sensed land surface temperature (DLSL). ► Thermal sharpening (TSP) and temperature unmixing are (TUM) subbranches of DLST. ► Citation maps are produced to illustrate the relationships among DLST literature. ► We provide the key issues of DLST and the caveats shared by TSP and TUM.
