Use of MODIS-derived surface reflectance data in the ORAC-AATSR aerosol retrieval algorithm: Impact of differences between sensor spectral response functions

► Satellite aerosol retrievals are generally underconstrained problems. ► MODIS BRDF data constrain land surface reflectance in the AATSR aerosol retrieval. ► The spectral response functions of nearby MODIS and AATSR bands are different. ► High-resolution surface spectra enable quantification and correction for this effect. ► Correcting for the differences improves the AATSR aerosol retrieval.
