Minimizing the dependency ratio in a population with below-replacement fertility through immigration

► We investigate Stationary through immigration (SI) populations. ► We determine age-specific immigration profiles minimizing the dependency in SI populations. ► The role of the shadow price of an a-year-old individual is discussed. ► The direct and indirect effect of an individual in terms of the dependency ratio is determined.
