- Hematite nanorods with exposed {0 0 1} and {1 1 0} facets exhibited better ferrous ions confining effect.
- Hematite facet confined ferrous ions could lower H2O2 decomposition energetic span.
- H2O2 decomposition efficiency was governed by the binding mode of ferrous ions on the hematite facets.
- Organic contaminants could be efficiently degraded in hematite facet confined ferrous ions Fenton systems.
