Determination of the electronic and geometric structure of Cu sites during methane conversion over Cu-MOR with X-ray absorption spectroscopy

► Cu sites in Cu-MOR change from Cu2+ to mixed Cu2+/Cu+ upon methane conversion. ► More than half of the Cu sites reduce during the treatment with methane. ► Electronic changes were not accompanied by structural changes.
