Optical properties of quantum dots layers: Application to photovoltaic solar cells

► Optical quality layers of PMMA containing CdSe/ZnS quantum dots were fabricated. ► Obtaining frequency down-conversion effect from quantum dots is applied to solar cell. ► Luminescence of quantum dots induces new charge generation in solar cell is verified. ► Both of frequency conversion effect and an increase in light confinement are expected. ► We propose core/shell quantum dots embedded in the active layer of organic solar cell.
