Novel solution processable small molecule containing new electron-withdrawing group and oligothiophene for photovoltaic applications

► A small molecule 8TPDC8 with a novel electron-withdrawing group PD was synthesized. ► This molecule displayed a relatively broad absorption range of 300-900 nm. ► A power conversion efficiency of 1.28% obtained.
