Fungal species assemblages associated with Phytophthora ramorum-infected coast live oaks following bark and ambrosia beetle colonization in northern California

► Coast live oaks were inoculated with Phytophthora ramorum, cause of sudden oak death. ► Fungi were isolated from sapwood before and after beetle attacks. ► 13 Fungal species were found after infection alone and 26 following beetle attacks. ► Beetles reared from infected trees carried known and suspected tree pathogens and decay fungi. ► Beetle attacks may accelerate death of infected coast live oaks.
