A model for mixed potential in direct methanol fuel cell cathode and a novel cell design

► We report a model of the cathode catalyst layer (CCL) in DMFC. ► The model assumes the electrochemical mechanism of MOR in the CCL. ► Part of the CCL at the membrane works as an anode. ► This result suggests a novel three-electrode cell design. ► The 3rd electrode converts the methanol in membrane into the useful current.
