Parallelized computational modeling of pile-soil interactions in mechanized tunneling

► A simulation model for shield tunneling is used to model pile-soil interactions. ► The embedded pile model allows discretization-independent modeling of pile groups. ► Frictional contact along the height of the pile as well as tip resistance is considered. ► The pile model can be applied to the modeling of grouted anchors and pipe roofs. ► Using GMRES solver with KLU preconditioner provides relative best efficiency.
