Food waste as nutrient source in heterotrophic microalgae cultivation

- We investigated the fungal hydrolysis of food waste.
- Hydrolysate obtained was rich in glucose, free amino nitrogen, and phosphate.
- Pure hydrolysate was used as nutrient source in heterotrophic microalgae cultivation.
- We obtained good growth of microalgae on pure food waste hydrolysate.
- Algal biomass was rich in carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, and ω-3 fatty acids.
