Characterization and dye decolorization ability of an alkaline resistant and organic solvents tolerant laccase from Bacillus licheniformis LS04

► A novel bacterial strain exhibiting laccase activity was isolated. ► The strain was identified as Bacillus licheniformis LS04. ► The spore laccase from strain LS04 was quite stable at 80 °C and pH 9.0. ► The spore laccase was also tolerant towards 1 M NaCl and 30% of organic solvents. ► More than 80% of dye decolorization was achieved in 1 h with acetosyringone as mediator.
