An enhanced model based on the ideal adiabatic model has been proposed in this paper where the regenerator heat loss is investigated based on some new assumptions and various loss mechanisms including the loss of heat and pressure in heat exchangers are considered as well, at the same time, amounts of governing equations have been obtained according to the above method, which are calculated to show a convergent PV figure that presents the compression/expansion processes. Besides, the thermal efficiency is presented as functions of volume ratio at different circumstances, including various temperature differences and phase differences. It is found that the function relationship between thermal efficiency and volume ratio is not monotonic and there exists a peak value. Furthermore, the result is analyzed based on genetic algorithm and optimum values of volume ratio corresponding to the maximum thermal efficiency at different heater and cooler temperatures have been listed in this paper.
