Experimental investigation of spray cooling on flat and enhanced surfaces

► Differences between spray cooling on flat and enhanced surfaces were investigated. ► The shadowgraph technique was used to accurately measure the droplet parameters. ► Heat transfer was enhanced for the enhanced surfaces compared with the flat surface. ► There is an optimal flow rate and optimal orifice-to-surface distance. ► The heat transfer increased with the surface roughness.
