► Illustrate film cooling performance of consoles on a blade suction side. ► Assess effects of major factors on the film cooling effectiveness and discharge coefficient. ► Console geometry shows a different behavior of secondary vortices as cylindrical holes. ► Coolant jet from the console is of the flow feature for suppressing normal penetration. ► Such detailed film cooling results about consoles have not been reported earlier.
