Carrier mounted bacterial consortium facilitates oil remediation in the marine environment

► Two novel bioaugmented and biostimulated carrier material were assessed in 50 l mesocosm. ► Mussel shells were most effective in degrading weathered oil. ► Approximately 75% of the weathered oil was degraded. ► Carrier materials were shown to be non toxic and non intrusive to native seawater community.
