Carbon dioxide fixation and lipid storage by Scenedesmus obtusiusculus

► CO2 fixation by Scenedesmus obtusiusculus is among the highest values for Scenedesmaceae. ► S. obtusiusculus tolerates gas stream with 10% of CO2 v/v. ► The microalga stores a high lipid content (55.7%) under nitrogen starvation. ► High lipid productivities (200 g m−3 d−1) are achieved with S. obtusiusculus.
