Enhanced fed-batch fermentation of 2,3-butanediol by Paenibacillus polymyxa DSM 365

► Up to 111 g L−1 2,3-butanediol (BDL) were produced in high nutritional medium. ► Apparently this is the highest BDL titer so far reported for Paenibacillus polymyxa. ► EPS was formed at fermentations in low nutritional medium. ► In the range of 30-40 °C, EPS formation was found to depend on temperature. ► Tween80® reduced EPS caused viscosity of fermentation broth.
