Response surface methodology as optimization strategy for asymmetric bioreduction of (4S)-(+)-carvone by Cryptococcus gastricus

► The bioreduction of (4S)-(+)-carvone by Cryptococcus gastricus was optimized by RSM. ► First and second order polynomial equations were calculated. ► Experimental data were in good agreement with predicted values. ► After optimization, bioreduction yields were maximized. ► At the same time, unsought side reactions were minimized.
