Removal and recovery of phosphorus as struvite from swine wastewater using microbial fuel cell

► Swine wastewater was treated with the air-cathode single chamber MFCs. ► From the influent, 70-82% of phosphorus was removed. ► Precipitates were formed on the surface of the liquid side of the air-cathode. ► The main component of the precipitate was identified as struvite crystal.
