Impact of pyrolysis temperature and manure source on physicochemical characteristics of biochar

► Pyrolysis of a range of manures yields alkaline inorganic nutrient-rich biochars. ► Properties similar for turkey and poultry litter, feedlot and dairy, but different for swine biochars. ► Concentration of non-volatile minerals may prove beneficial for manure biochar use as a fertilizer alternative. ► FTIR confirmed increased aromatic C-structures with N and P-group contributions.
