Particle effect of SAPO-11 promoter on isomerization reaction in FCC units

• Superfine SAPO-11 was synthesized by dry gel method with surfactant CTAB.
• The effect of promoter particle size showed influence on product distribution.
• FCC catalysts with SAPO-11 promoter enhanced the octane number of gasoline.

Superfine silico-alumino-phosphate-11 (SAPO-11) molecular sieves were synthesized in presence of cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) via steam-assisted conversion. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), N2-adsorption, pyridine-adsorbed Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (Py-FT-IR) and dynamic light scattering (DLS) techniques. The analysis results reveal that SAPO-11 crystalline particles are 300 nm is size and acidic sites are controlled by mass ratio of CTAB in the initial gel. The catalytic isomerization of superfine SAPO-11 was evaluated using n-dodecane and vacuum gas oil as feed streams. Catalysts with SAPO-11 as a promoter exhibit more iso-hydrocarbons in the gasoline than catalysts without promoter. In addition, the effect of particle size of SAPO-11 on isomerization reaction is also investigated in the present study.
