ZSM-5 zeolite was homogeneously coated on the pore walls of durra-derived biomorphic silicon carbide (bioSiC) by a direct hydrothermal synthesis route. The ZSM-5/bioSiC composites prepared from different synthesis times were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, N2 adsorption–desorption and thermogravimetric analysis. The results showed that hydrothermal synthesis time and temperature had obvious effect on the morphology and growth mechanism of zeolite coating. A continuous coating of ZSM-5 could be formed on the bioSiC at 160 °C in 36 h with a loading of 15 wt%. The ZSM-5/bioSiC composites exhibited hierarchically porous structures and high specific surface areas.
