Mesoporous benzene silica functionalized with various amine groups

Functionalized mesoporous benzene silica (MBS) hybrids containing propylamine, propylethylenediamine, and propyldihydroimidazole were synthesized by the direct co-condensation of 1,4-bis(triethoxysilyl)benzene with (3-aminopropyl)trimethoxysilane, [3-(2-aminoethylamino)propyl]trimethoxysilane, or n-(3-triethoxysilylpropyl)4,5-dihydroimidazole using octadecyltrimethylammonium chloride as the structure directing agent. Well-ordered functionalized mesoporous MBS was produced with functional group loading of 10 mol%. Higher functional group loadings yielded larger mesopores and amines embedded in the pore walls. TEM results suggest individual MBS single pore structures may be observed.
