► A better LC/MS method applied to impurity profiling of etimicin sulfate was established. ► Impurity profiling of etimicin sulfate produced in The People's Republic of China was reported for the first time. ► 26 impurities detected from a micromicin sulfate injection sample were identified. ► 14 impurities were newly identified.
