Studies based upon the recently developed modified thrombin generation assay, which is sensitive to procoagulant and anticoagulant factors variations, confirmed hypercoagulability phenotype in patient with cirrhosis. Finally, impairment of fibrin formation and perturbation of fibrin clot structure able to give a prothrombotic effect have also been found.
