Intensive activity of necrophagic insects on animal carcasses thorough the process of decay is a natural phenomenon that is used to solve criminal inquiries and named Forensic Entomology. Dipterans larvae carefully collected on a human cadaver and its surrounding are studied by forensic specialists and are mainly used as biological clocks in order to estimate the time elapsed since the death of a victim and the recovery of her cadaver, so-called post mortem interval. This paper proposes to define Forensic Entomology field, sampling, analysis estimate time of death, but also recent and further evolution of that discipline. The main application within Forensic sciences matches with necrophagic insects study, but more generally, when insects interact with legal matter, one deals with the field of forensic entomology.
