Inexpensive optical system for microarray ELISA

► We describe the development of a low-cost immunodiagnostic test reader. ► Novel device constructed from low-cost materials and off-the-shelf components. ► Optically determines relevant biomarker concentrations. ► Colorimetry and fluorescence were used as detection methods. ► A webcam captured light being reflected or emitted from a protein microarray slide.
