Comparison of three different sample preparation procedures for the determination of traffic-related elements in airborne particulate matter collected on glass fiber filters

► We determined Cu, Mo, Sb in air particulate matter collected on glass fiber filters. ► We compared three sample preparation procedures. ► Analytical performance was very similar for the three procedures. ► Direct solid sampling was the fastest and environmentally most correct procedure. ► The ratio Cu:Mo:Sb ≈ 4:1:1.4 indicates wear of brake pads as the source.
