Preparation of hydrophilic carbon-functionalized magnetic microspheres coated with chitosan and application in solid-phase extraction of bisphenol A in aqueous samples

► Hydrophilic magnetic Fe3O4@C@CHI microspheres were synthesized for the first time. ► Glucose was employed as carbon-functional source for linking chitosan layer. ► The Fe3O4@C@CHI microspheres were validated by the adsorption of EBT dye. ► The microspheres presented good extraction efficiency for BPA in aqueous samples.
