Experimental and macroscopic investigation of dynamic crack patterns in PVB laminated glass sheets subject to light-weight impact

► It is proven in the paper that the radial crack appears earlier than circumferential crack experimentally.
► Crack morphology and cracking speed history is investigated.
► Cracking speed in PVB laminated glass is firstly measured (i.e. v = 811 m/s) and it is faster than that in PMMA and slower in pure glass.
► Cracking speed will increase with the external impact energy with an upper limit.
