Extrusion of electroformed giant unilamellar vesicles through track-etched membranes

► Extrusion of giant vesicles (GUVs) and multilamellar vesicles (MLVs) was compared. ► Drug encapsulation potential of extruded GUVs was found to be higher compared to MLVs. ► Single extrusion of GUVs produced small liposomes of narrow size distribution. ► Fluid velocity in membrane pore dictates radius of liposomes formed by GUV extrusion.
