Improving the property of a water box nozzle made of 17-4PH steel by suitable heat treatment

• Water box nozzle, made of cast precipitation-hardened stainless steel failed in wear.
• Lower hardness and improper micro structure confirmed that the material did not undergo proper heat treatment after casting.
• Based on the failure analysis a heat treatment cycle was recommended.
• Significant improvement in hardness value was observed after heat treatment.
