Experimental investigation of water droplet emergence in a model polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell microchannel

► Dynamic evolution of liquid water is analyzed using flow visualization. ► Analysis yields flow regime maps, contact angle hysteresis and dynamic characteristics. ► Significantly higher critical (detachment) air velocities are observed compared to the literature. ► In film flow regime, droplet aspect ratio and hysteresis decrease, reducing water removal capacity.
