Copper(I) and copper(II) complexes of 5-nitroimidazole conjugated heteroscorpionate ligands were able to overcome platinum drug resistance and displayed a noticeable specificity against colon cancer cells, provoking a massive cytoplasmic vacuolization consistent with the induction of a paraptotic-like cancer cell death.167
