A 0.1 wt% Gd-doped LS with the mixed solvent as the matrix was first prepared and studied. In this ternary system, Gd(TMHD)3 was chosen as the gadolinium source and loaded into the Gd-doped LS. The optimum solute concentration of the Gd-doped LS was explored and the ternary system with the concentration of 4.0 g/L PPO and 30 mg/L bis-MSB was identified as the optimum sample which showed the highest light yield. The maximum fluorescence emission wavelength of the sample lied at 430 nm at which the PMT had a maximum detection efficiency. The sample had as high as 51.91% relative light yield of anthracene crystal. The optical absorption coefficient of the sample was calculated to be 0.003±0.0002 L molâ1 cmâ1. For the fluorescence decay characteristic, the sample exhibited the decay time as fast as 4.15 ns. As a result, owing to a good comprehensive performance both in light output, optical transparency, fluorescence decay characteristic, and even in terms of compatibility and safety issues, it could be believed that the 0.1 wt% Gd-doped LS would further present the potential application in neutrino accident detection.188
