Novel Zn2SnO4@C core-shell nanorods have been prepared by a simple hydrothermal and subsequent carbonization approach. A series of morphology and structural characteristics are conducted on the obtained material, including X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy combined with energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometer, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and thermal gravimetric analysis, followed by electrochemical study. When evaluating as anode materials for lithium-ion batteries, the as-synthesized Zn2SnO4@C core-shell nanorods exhibit improved electrochemical properties with higher Li storage capacity and longer cycle life compared to the pristine Zn2SnO4 nanorods. The novel core-shell nano structure with excellent buffering effect and better Li storage performance provide a promising use of anode material for Li ion battery.
