Microstructural investigation of in situ TiB whiskers array reinforced ZrB2-SiC joint

► A TiB whiskers array was in situ synthesized on ZrB2-SiC interface during brazing. ► Produced AgCu4Zr and sufficient Ti promoted dissolving of ZrB2. ► A gradient joint of TiB whiskers array/AgCu4Zr + TiCu/Ag is fabricated. ► Severe reaction between SiC and Ti led to an “anchor structure”. ► Pull-out mechanism and fracture deflection of TiB whiskers improved joint fracture toughness.
