Firing transformations of Chilean clays for the manufacture of ceramic tile bodies

► Studied raw materials are kaolinic- illitic clays with a high quartz content. ► Mineralogical transformations induced by firing have been discussed. ► The bending strength of each ceramic body has been determined. ► Some clay can be situated in the required specifications for earthenware. ► Clays from IV and VI Regions may contribute to developing the ceramic industry in Chile.
