Improvement of the environmental performance of broiler feeds: a study via life cycle assessment

► Environmental impacts of animal-mixed and vegetarian feeds were studied via LCA. ► Five options to improve environmental performance of the feeds were proposed. ► Vegetarian feeds showed higher impacts than animal-mixed feeds. ► More than 60% of feed impacts came from energy-rich and protein-rich ingredients. ► Maize drying process and crop plantations were the main impact causes.
