The Poynting-Robertson effect: A critical perspective

► We present correct derivation of the Poynting-Robertson (P-R) effect. ► We show that derivation of the P-R effect in Burns et al. (1979) is not correct. ► We present incorrect statements on the P-R effect, which exist in the literature. ► All presented incorrect statements are reformulated in a correct way. ► Secular evolution of pericentric and apocentric distances is examined.
